What Will You Have to Let Go of to Get Great Sleep?
Chronic insomnia feels so YUCK.
You drag around the day feeling half awake. You can barely contain yourself when someone gets in your way. You know you are not focusing well and your brain feels foggy.
Considering all the negatives, why not take steps to overcome insomnia?
Perhaps a part of you doesn't want to.
You may be thinking, "yes, I'd like to feel awake and alert all day, BUT WHAT WILL I HAVE TO GIVE UP for that to happen?”
Will I have to let go of flopping on the couch at the end of the day and having a sweet little snooze?
Will I have to let go of watching tv before I go to bed?
Will I have to give up my late night alone time just for me?
You may hold an assumption that there will be a major trade-off between great sleep and some other treasured aspect of life.
Well, it's true that you will have to let go of some things to get great sleep.
But what exactly are these things? Simply coping mechanisms. You only treasure them now because they compensate for all the discomfort you are suffering from not sleeping.
For example, napping at the end of the day will make it very difficult to fall asleep at night. But once you get great sleep, you won’t need a nap at the end of the day.
What if you just needed to make some lifestyle adjustments with the reward of feeling rested and energized during the day? Aligning your mind, body and your lifestyle with what your body craves and needs.
Are there some trade-offs?
Yes.
Every change requires some kind of shift in behaviour and mindset.
Many of these trade-offs for sleep are not so hard. And more than compensated for by getting great sleep.
It’s your image of what those trade-offs may be that keeps you stuck.
Stuck in the endless loop of going to bed, not sleeping enough or deeply, waking up frustrated, not rested, feeling blah and grumpy.
How long are you willing to put up with this?
